VENUE SPOTLIGHT - THE DEWBERRY
What can I say about The Dewberry? Other than I want to take up residence there permanently...
This unique hotel downtown has become my home away from home of sorts - not only did I get married there myself (super biased much?), I also planned FIVE Dewberry weddings this year! What can I say, Dewberry people are my kind of people :)
I wanted to take the time to highlight three reasons why The Dewberry is one of my favorite Charleston-area venues - what makes it unique, and why you should consider if for your wedding or next special occasion:
Reason #1: Totally stunning event spaces. The Dewberry used to be the L. Mendel Rivers federal building, commissioned in 1965 by President Lyndon B. Johnson. When the building was damaged, and subsequently vacated, in 1999 due to Hurricane Floyd it remained abandoned for nine years. John Dewberry purchased the building, and embarked on an impressive eight year renovation. The hotel maintains the βvibeβ of that government building, with brass fixtures, mid century Modern aesthetics, and gleaming marble floors.
The Ballroom - conveniently located on the first floor of the hotel, this intimate space is the perfect chic, neutral background for any gathering. Beautiful, chevron patterned wood flooring, white walls, and sheer ivory drapes are a highlight, along with brass fixtures and mercury glass frames that adorn the walls, adding visual interest.
The Walled Garden - also conveniently located on the first floor, and attached to the Ballroom, this bricked courtyard area with bluestone tile is the perfect location for an outdoor ceremony, cocktail hour, or and al fresco dining experience. Just add dreamy cafe lighting!
The Rivers Room - I would argue that the Dewberry has one of the best rooftop views in all of Charleston. With unobstructed 360 degree views from floor to ceiling windows, neutral wood flooring and white walls, the Rivers Room is an extremely versatile space for ceremonies, cocktail hours, or intimate dinner gatherings.
Reason #2: Exemplary Staff. If you are looking for a VIP, best-in-class experience for you and your guests, look no further. It becomes obvious from the minute you step into the hotel that The Dewberry takes customer service and client experience very seriously. From general hotel staff, sales personnel, event staff and service members, you are sure to be met with warm hospitality and above-and-beyond service.
Reason #3: Delicious food, beverage, and pastry options. If exemplary food and bev are high on your list, The Dewberry might be your perfect match. Inspired dishes, creative cocktails, stunning wedding cakes - you name it, they can do it. I have NEVER had a bad meal (or drink) here.
Bonus! - The ability to host all of your wedding-weekend gatherings in one location! Seriously though - if you are interested in an all-in-one experience, The Dewberry can make it happen. Not only are the beautiful event spaces I highlighted above available, but also be sure to check out The Dewberry's on premise restaurant, Henrietta's (modeled after a traditional French brasserie) for rehearsal dinner or post-wedding brunch options. The rooftop Citrus Club is a great spot for an intimate welcome gathering. Check out the Living Room area on the first floor for drinks and a snack during your stay. Not to mention, the hotels ample rooms are sure to delight guests and provide a photo worthy getting-ready area.
Long story short - if you are looking for a delightful, well rounded experience in a unique venue, put the Dewberry on your list of places to check out next time you are in downtown Charleston. And I would totally not say no if you invited me to tag along for a pre-walk through cocktail ;)
